Women and Children First
That headline isn’t strictly right or connected with this, but it made you have a look so now you’re here I can let you know that… We need women and children (Child Protection Officer: Panic not, read on…)…
Those of us that go out to the local tournaments are delighted that some of our recently joined members are coming along – and they’ve discovered why we go, it’s simply a good day out. Yes, it’s lovely if we score well and we try (when we remember!), but first and foremost we enjoy shooting with archers from the broader archery community, seeing other venues and clubs and the like. And, in seriousness we do usually go to shoot well, but for anyone who hasn’t been to a tournament it’s important to know that if you come along no one has expectations, just the hope that you’ll have a good day and want to go again.
When we do shoot well we may not get the individual medals, but we have won team medals when we’ve been able to enter a team.
The thing is, almost always the rules state that the team must include a junior and a member of the opposite sex or one or the other, so as we’re all fellas, other than when Oliver joins us, we can’t enter a team score and Oliver being a busy young man can’t always be there.
So, this is the recruiting call for ladies and juniors to come along to some tournaments, enjoy the day and make it possible for Talisman to pitch in a team score among those of our local clubs.

The Chris Sherwood Memorial Shoot at AC Delco near Southampton on August 14th, where we’ll be shooting Western rounds – Lady or junior required.
The FoBB “Crookhorn”, a 20 yard Portsmouth round shot at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth on 6th November – Oliver’s joining us, but ladies and more juniors welcome.
The AC Delco Indoor Tournament, another 20 yard Portsmouth round at Fleming Park in Eastleigh on 13th November – Again, Oliver’s joining us, but ladies and more juniors welcome.
And, to be sure there’s no sex discrimination going on, this is about highlighting a need, it is not about excluding men, so of course, if you of the male variety you are also very welcome to join us too.
