Great day at the FoBB Invitational Challenge
Almost a dozen of us enjoyed an excellent day at FoBB on bank holiday Monday, shooting a Western in their annual Invitational Challenge. It was primarily a team event and we put in two teams, coming sixth and ninth in the results. But, it wasn’t about taking the trophy (this time) it was about a great day out, in good company, enjoying a good shoot, the hospitality of great hosts and to give some of our newer members a taste of the tournament experience. A taste I think, they all enjoyed, as did we “less-new” members (if I said “older” someone would only take the Mick!)
I think we may have to watch recent beginner David, who on his first tournament, shooting 60 and 50 yards only weeks after completing his beginners’ course, and shooting a score of 644! Nice work sir! Oliver also did a great job at staying in the fun knock-out that followed the tournament until very near the end, against senior archers too – well done Oliver! We were fortunate to have Sarah shooting with us, giving a very useful 780 to our team score and, if you view the results by bow category, Sarah was first among the recurve ladies! Andy was happy to have the +191 bonus score for shooting barebow and wonders why we don’t have that as a norm in the club (certainly be useful on a 252 where barebows actually need to shoot 189!).
It was the first outing for the new club shirts and had there been one maybe we’d have taken the “best dressed club” prize. There was a cool extra prize given out on the day, a prize awarded to John Taylor for…. being John Taylor!
If you’re wondering about doing a tournament have a chat with anyone who went to FoBB, I’m sure they’ll recommend you give it a go.
And, of course, a big thank you to our hosts at Forest of Bere Bowmen for a tremendous day – we’re already looking forward to next year!
