Come out to play
This week sees the last of our indoor sessions for this end of the year, as of Sunday, all sessions will be outdoors, on the field (more info on the “where we shoot” page if you need it).
A key holder will arrive to open up about 9.30am with a view to shooting starting at 10am. The more people who come along to help set up, the better. It doesn’t take long and we’re slick, but many hands make light work and the sooner we’re set up the sooner we can start shooting.
For those unfamiliar with shooting on the field the whistles and the like are the same, so nothing new to learn there. With regard to what round you shoot, if you’re there early you’ll probably get to shoot whatever you fancy, we tend to put targets up to suit the wishes of those members present at the time (we may this year, shoot a particular round or do a fun shoot on the last Sunday of the month, but announcements on that as we go). If you arrive a bit late and want to shoot something other than what’s already covered you’ll have to set your own target up swiftly between ends, you’ll get some help but disrupting those already shooting as little as possible is the order of the day.
I was going to try and inspire a “mass turnout” this Sunday, but the weather forecast does include some of the wet stuff, but on the first sunny Sunday it would be great to have loads of people along, there’s nothing quite like a field of targets in the sun, flags limp in the absence of breeze, arrows grouped in the gold all over the place (or is that arrows all over the place groping around the gold? One of those 😉 )
We’re unlikely to drive onto the field this week as it’s still a bit soggy by the gate, but there’s usually parking space on the road and it’s only a short walk. If you’re not familiar with the driving rules for the field, do please familiarise yourself with them (see “where we shoot“). The public have been known to complain if we do things wrong and complaints will only put our use of the field in jeopardy, so best behaviour please.
