As the late, great Roy Castle was fond of saying: Dedication’s what you need – if you want to be a Record Breaker* but if you’re looking to get your name into the Talisman Bowmen book of records, there are a few things you need to remember when reporting your scores:
- Report your scores! If you’re not sending your scores via paper or email to the Records Officer, they’re not being logged and you won’t be racking up those records. Also you won’t be building a documented handicap for use in Talisman Competitions like the Strawberry Shoot or the Annual Club Championships.
- Make sure all the relevant details are filled in: Name, location and bow.
- Location is helpful, especially if you’re shooting anywhere else than a Talisman shoot. If the location is not clear, I’ll infer from the date what the likely venue is.
- Make sure it’s clear what style of bow you’re shooting with. The make and model’s nice and all, but it must be clear if you’re shooting recurve, barebow, compound or other. If it’s not clear from the score report which bow you’re shooting with, the score will be logged with your default bow style, so if you vary your bow style, make sure it’s clear on the reporting.
- Make sure you get your score witnessed and signed, especially if you’re looking to set a new Record. Paper and apps both provide space for the witness name and signature.
- Please submit scores promptly, as soon after shooting as possible rather than saving up and submitting a bunch of scores together. At the very least, score should be submitted within a month of being shot.
The quickest way to get a score logged is by emailing the score to recordsofficer@talismanbowmen.com via an App like ExpertArcher. (Other apps are also available: https://archerygb.org/news/archery-apps). Paper forms will be collected regularly from shooting venues where they can be given to the field captain to pass on but there may be a delay before they are logged.
Any queries or questions about logging scores, records or handicaps, please contact the Records Officer.
* Only Members in the 50+ divisions are expected to get this reference!
